Iatrogenic Extraprostatic Extension of Prostate Cancer From a Needle Biopsy
Seeding of prostate cancer along a needle biopsy track is a rare complication. The diagnosis of this presents a significant upstaging of the disease and profound potential changes to the treatment strategy. In this report, we present a 71 year-old male with otherwise low-risk prostate cancer on final pathology except for extraprostatic extension (EPE) along a probable needle track. We further r...

Despite the uncomplicated definition of presence of neoplastic glands outside the prostatic boundary, diagnosing EPE is not always straightforward, the main reason being absence of true capsule around prostate gland. Other confounding findings include intracaps...

Taunton, UK There is no doubt that prostate cancer kills, but only a minority of men who are given this diagnosis, die from prostate cancer. In the developed world we are now overdiagnosing and, more importantly, overtreating prostate cancer, a fact for which we will be criticized in generations to come. As well-intentioned urologists, we should have no trouble in justifying our radical therapy...
